CULF 1-2 University of Chichester

Mistakes in set pieces cost Cardiff.

Cardiff started well, dominating the first 15 minutes as Chichester were denied from entering the penalty area by a strong Cardiff defence.

Striker Katie Davies had Cardiff’s first shot on target from the edge of the box but the ball was met with a comfortable save from the Chichester keeper.

A free kick was awarded to away side in Cardiff’s half at 20 minutes. A high cross from the left swept across the face of goal to find an unmarked Chichester player at the back post where she headed it past Emily Haywood to score the first goal of the game.

Cardiff were denied from scoring at the end of the first half as Chichester’s keeper was forced to come off her line and blocked an attempt from Davies.

Chichester came out on top after half-time, scoring quickly from a corner with a strong shot rebounding off Mollie Craig into Cardiff’s goal.

Davies made it 2-1 at 60 minutes as Craig’s cross found Davies on the edge of the penalty area where she turned and lobbed the Chichester goalkeeper, the ball finding the back of the net.

Despite a desperate surge to equalise and having the majority of possession in Chichester’s half, Cardiff failed to create clear-cut goalscoring opportunities in the last moments of the game.

Left back Poppy Warren received player of the match and Cardiff 1s will be hoping to secure their first win of the season next week when they make the short journey to Cyncoed to take on Cardiff Met 1sts.
